While most other inner-city power facilities in West Berlin were a consequence of the cold war and the Berlin blockade, this site was actually one of the first power plants on today’s Berlin’s area at all. The former city of Charlottenburg was quite wealthy, and (according to history books) was eager to demonstrate this wealth, and also its independence from the former concurring city of Berlin. The chimney’s and the corresponding facilities, however, are post-war work.
